Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich Publishes Memoir Clann na Seanamhuintire
Celebrated Irish musician Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich has released his memoir, Clann na Seanamhuintire, tracing his life growing up in West Kerry in the 1950s. It captures his journey as a musician, artist, school teacher, festival organiser, his television work and activism and adventures—along with the family roots and traditions that shaped him.
A highly decorated artist and cultural advocate, Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich was named Musician of the Year by Irish Music Magazine in 2002 and is a former All-Ireland Melodeon Champion. He has recorded extensively, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with artists like Laoise Kelly and Boys of the Lough, and has spearheaded several acclaimed traditional music television programmes including Geanntraí, Caipíní, Sé Mo Laoch, and Cannúintí Ceoil. Beyond performance, he has served on major national panels such as the Arts Council of Ireland’s Adjudication Panel and Bord Logainmneacha Éireann, reflecting his ongoing role in shaping Irish cultural life. A former teacher, Ó Beaglaoich now devotes himself full-time to music and heritage work from his home in West Kerry.
