With a voice unmistakably his own, Freddie White has built a reputation as one of Ireland’s finest interpreters of song. A masterful guitarist with a keen ear for great material, his performances move effortlessly between folk, rock and singer-songwriter traditions. Whether delivering his own compositions or reimagining classics, White has a rare ability to inhabit a song and make it feel deeply personal.

Born in Cobh, Co. Cork, into a musical family, White was performing professionally by the age of 17. At 19 he moved to London, where busking in subway stations helped shape his distinctive voice and expressive guitar style. Returning to Ireland in the 1970s, he became a founding member of Scullion alongside Philip King and Sonny Condell, before later forming the influential band The Fake.

His breakthrough came with the acclaimed album Live on Tour, recorded by Nicky Ryan while touring with Clannad. Its follow-up, Do You Do, became the Mulligan label’s biggest-selling release of 1981, confirming White’s reputation for bringing an eclectic and timeless repertoire to Irish audiences.

Over the decades he has released a string of celebrated albums including Long Distance Runner, Four Days in May, Stormy Lullaby and One Heart Beating. Now back living in Ireland after years abroad, Freddie White continues to tour regularly — bringing audiences a rich mix of new material and beloved classics from a remarkable career spanning more than four decades.
