A new Irish play by Philip O’ Byrne, Hunters Moon Theatre Co.
The village of Kyletock in the west of Ireland is a very different place today than in 1970 when Danny Dalton upped sticks and decided to head to England. Disillusioned by the lack of work and prospects in the typical small-minded and fearful environment of the time where the church held sway over every aspect of life, he has decided he wants out.
If a girl got “in trouble” she was “sent away,” often never to return. This is what happened to Danny’s sister, Mary and the family home has never been the same since. Following a big row with his parents, Danny takes the boat and turns his back on Kyletock. Fast forward 30 years and Mike has been proven right. He has made good back in Kyletock while Danny’s life in Kilburn has hardly changed at all.
