Film Synopsis | A timeless coming-of-age story, Stand by Me follows four boys on a life-changing journey filled with friendship, self-discovery, and adventure.
Based on a novella by Stephen King, this classic film captures the bittersweet transition from childhood to growing up. This coming-of-age drama is set in 1950s Oregon and follows four young friends—Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern—who set out on a journey to find the body of a missing boy. Along the way, their adventure becomes a deeper exploration of friendship, loss, and the transition from childhood to adolescence, as each boy confronts personal struggles and discovers more about himself and one another.
The late, great Rob Reiner excelled at bringing writers such as William Goldman (The Princess Bride, 1987) and Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men, 1992) to the screen. In a crowded field, he also proved to have a uniquely masterful grasp of the work of Stephen King in both Misery (1990) and this sensitive, humorous, and ultimately moving coming-of-age story. Four boys (River Phoenix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O’Connell) go in search of the body of a missing boy.
