A self-taught painter with a remarkable eye for the beauty of everyday life, McSweeney found inspiration in the landscapes, people and places around him. His work was exhibited widely in Ireland and internationally, while his deep connection to the Múscraí landscape became an important part of his artistic life.

Winner of the Cork Shorts Award at the 2014 Cork Film Festival, Ó Céilleachair’s film offers a warm and thoughtful portrait of an artist who saw extraordinary beauty in the ordinary.

The screening of this short film (23 minutes) will be followed by a Q&A with director Dónal Ó Céilleachair, offering audiences the opportunity to hear more about the making of the film, McSweeney’s life and work, and the creative process behind this celebrated portrait.
